Low Radioactivity Techniques 2013

This workshop examines topics in low radioactivity materials and techniques, which is probably the most fundamental part of rare event physics detectors, such as for solar neutrinos, dark matter, double-beta decay, and long half-life phenomena. This conference is intended to be wide in scope to include all aspects of the development of low background detectors and techniques. This is the fourth workshop in the LRT series.

This edition of the workshop will be held at Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) of INFN. It is the largest underground laboratory in the world for experiments in particle physics, particle astrophysics and nuclear astrophysics. It is located between the towns of L'Aquila and Teramo, about 120 km from Rome. LNGS is in the heart of a beautiful mountain national park, with many local attractions and places to visit both in mountain villages and Adriatic beach towns.

The workshop is a two-three days topical workshop over April 10-12, 2013.

The goal of this workshop series is to bring together experts in this field for presentations and discussion covering broadly the issues of low radioactivity techniques. The intention is to foster and continue the collaboration and resource sharing required for the new generation of detectors to be developed at underground facilities

Contributed papers from talks and posters will be published in AIP Conference Proceedings. A hard copy is included in the registration fee. Transparencies, posters and other contributions will be promptly posted on the conference website.

The previous LRT workshops were LRT2010 at SNOLAB (Sudbury, Canada), LRT2006 at Modane (Aussois, France), and the inaugural LRT2004 hosted at Laurentian University (Sudbury, Canada). It is intended that the workshop be held approximately every 2-3 years. The major underground labs around the world are now planning and constructing experiments, and are strongly in need of the LRT principles examined in this workshop series.

AARM travel awards for U.S. participants

In order to increase U.S. participation in the LRT2013 Workshop, the AARM collaboration will provide travel awards for U.S. faculty and senior scientists and for U.S. junior physicists (post-doctoral researchers and graduate students). Preference will be given to applicants giving talks or presenting posters at the Workshop. See Registration section for more details.
